Breast Cancer
Chances are you'll know some one that has it,
or has had it, or was worried that they might have it. Maybe it's
you? Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and in
2001 it killed 13,000 people. Lung disease kills more women each
year, but it's breast cancer that seems to have the ability to
really frighten us.
Breast cancer is so offensively common, so
much a part of life, that even our weekly dose of Sex and the
City now has us grappling with the disease. A stark reminder,
indeed. Life was about sex, men, coffee and chocolate... right
up until "Samantha" dropped her bombshell.
Bombshell it may have been, but she's a blonde
bombshell, first and foremost. Not for Samantha shock, retreat,
a change in lifestyle... for her it's been an opportunity to wear
great wigs and buy new outfits. Yes, it's fiction. Yes, it's much
more difficult in real life. And
yes, there are very real women who are coping with breast cancer
by feeling good about themselves.
Designers and suppliers
are meeting the needs of women with breast cancer through specialist
clothing. There are tops and bras designed to enhance re-constructive
surgery and form natural curves for those who've undergone mastectomies.
And Uniquely Woman
makes it easy to find them...
Newly established Lavender
and Lace is worth a visit, with their stylish and feminine
web site listing a range of bras that are appropriate for those
who have undergone mastectomies. Talking of pretty and feminine,
Nicola Jane is hard to beat
for mastectomy bras made from beautiful fabrics and laces. Finally,
Woman-Zone the long established
supplier of post mastectomy lingerie and swimwear is celebrating
their 10th anniversary and a visit to their web site reinforces
why this trustworthy supplier is still going strong after a decade
of supplying good quality products to women who have experienced
mastectomies.
According to Cancer Research UK 74% cent of
women are still alive five years after battling breast cancer.
Maybe it's you? It could be you. This week, when we cry our way
through the last ever episode of Sex and the City and wave goodbye
to Samantha Jones we'll know her Manolos live on. And so too will
the way she tackled breast cancer.
